Derek Falvey will have additional responsibilities going forward.

After 22 years in the role and 35 years with the organization, Twins president Dave St. Peter is stepping back from his role and handing the keys over to current President of Baseball Operations Derek Falvey. With Falvey taking on more responsibility, assistant GM Jeremy Zoll will be promoted to GM, replacing Thad Levine who left earlier this offseason.

While the Twins have yet to make any significant roster changes, change has been constant among the front office in the first few weeks of the offseason. Looming over it all is the potential sale of the Twins, which could completely shake up the organization. St. Peter is a Twins lifer and Pohlad loyalist, making it hard to decouple his transition from the Pohlad's departure.

For Derek Falvey, it's a well-deserved promotion that the Twins envisioned when they hired him nearly a decade ago. Falvey will continue to head the Twins' baseball operations while adding the business responsibilities, though I would have to imagine that setup won't be permanent. St. Peter will still be around the organization for the foreseeable future to help Falvey with the transition as well.

As for Jeremy Zoll, he was also in line for a promotion either within the Twins or elsewhere. He will become the team's 7th GM, though that specific title has been devalued around baseball over the past decade. Promoting Zoll means the Twins get to keep a rising baseball mind within the organization. While the Twins' front office has always spread responsibilities under Falvey's leadership, Falvey specifically credited Zoll for leading the negotiations on the Sonny Gray and Jorge Polanco trades (though I should note that only one of those actually worked out).

Zoll has been working in high-profile player development roles throughout his baseball career, scouting with the Reds, Blue Jays, and Angels before becoming the Assistant Director of Player Development with the Dodgers in 2014. Falvey recruited Zoll to the Twins in 2017 where he started as their Farm Director before being elevated to assistant GM in 2019. Zoll is still expected to oversee player development in his new role.

Zollvey doesn't roll off the tongue as well as Falvine, but we'll keep workshopping it.
