Starting pitcher Walker Buehler sealed the Yankees' fate after striking out former Dodgers outfielder Alex Verdugo to win the 2024 World Series.
This offseason, Buehler has officially entered the free agent market. The two-time National League All-Star is rumored to have mutual interest in signing with the Yankees, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi.

"I’ve been told there is at least some mutual interest between Walker Buehler and the New York Yankees," Morosi said.
Buehler threw the last pitch to secure the Dodgers' eighth World Series title in franchise history. In the postseason, Buehler logged a 3.60 ERA while throwing 13 strikeouts and five walks across four appearances.
The 30-year-old allowed six runs in a single inning in Game 3 of the NL Division Series against the Padres. But, Buehler held teams scoreless for the remainder of the postseason.
"While that would be an amazing storyline, certainly it’s not unprecedented that you would see someone join a team that they vanquished in the World Series the previous year," Morosi said. "He got better as October went along, we know this, the New York Yankees, with some comings and goings in their rotation, they are looking for rotation support."
The Yankees have four returning starting pitchers in their rotation. New York will keep All-Star pitchers Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodón alongside Clarke Schmidt and Luis Gil next season.
Buehler has expressed an interest in remaining in Los Angeles. But, the Dodgers did not extend a qualifying offer to the two-time World Series champion. Los Angeles extended an offer to outfielder Teoscar Hernández, which he declined last week.
