Fernando Valenzuela passed away due to decompensated alcoholic cirrhosis and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis cirrhosis.
Dodgers legend Fernando Valenzuela was officially laid to rest last week at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Burbank, and now, the cause of his death has officially been revealed.
Valenzuela, who was 63-years-old at the time of his death on October 22, died due to septic shock caused by decompensated alcoholic cirrhosis and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis cirrhosis. TMZ was the first to report the cause of his death.
Ruben Vivas of the Los Angeles Times delves more into Valenzuela, noting that a rare and lethal brain disease, Creutzfeld-Jakob disease, which causes changes in brain tissue and affects muscle coordination and memory, could've likely played a part in his death as well.

World Series MVP Freddie Freeman had his chance to be in the spotlight during the Fall Classic, and his time in the limelight continued last week when he appeared on the late night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live.
During the segment, Freeman was asked by Kimmel as to what the team did right after winning the World Series, where the first baseman admitted to the team getting much needed slumber after a wild night.
"This is going to be a little bit of a letdown. So, obviously we win on the road. We celebrate like crazy in the clubhouse doing a lot of fun stuff, but then we actually had to fly home that night, so we left Yankee Stadium around 3:00 a.m. and we flew all the way home. We landed at like 9:30 in the morning, so, I'm not going to lie, there was pretty much just sleeping."
Teoscar Hernández took to his Instagram on Monday to express his gratitude to Dodgers fans for their support and passion throughout the season.
"What a year! I want to take a moment to thank all the fans for their incredible support throughout this season. You are the driving force that pushes us to give our best in every game, and your energy and passion are felt around every corner of the stadium."
