Ex-Dodgers Star Corey Seager Receives Concerning Health Update

Former Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager will undergo a season-ending surgery on Friday to treat a sports hernia on the right side of his hip. Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant shared the news via X.
The Texas Rangers placed Seager on the 10-day injured list on Sept. 4 for right hip discomfort. However, the five-time MLB All-Star has not appeared in a game since the Rangers' 8-4 loss against the Yankees. Across four at-bats in his final game of the season, Seager recorded two hits and two strikeouts.
This is the second time Seager will have this type of surgery within the year. Throughout the Rangers' World Series run last season, Seager endured a sports hernia on his left side that resulted in surgery in January.
The Rangers are five spots short of an American League Wild Card spot, which means it is nearly impossible for the team to qualify for the postseason. Therefore, it is a wise decision to end Seager's season early to protect the health of their most-used shortstop.
Before the Rangers signed Seager as a free agent in 2021, Seager played six seasons with the Dodgers. Los Angeles drafted Seager as the No. 18 overall pick in the first round of the 2012 draft. He played a significant role on the team and won his first World Series title with the franchise in 2020.
Throughout nine MLB seasons, Seager has sustained a long list of injuries. Two of his most severe injuries occurred during his stint with the Dodgers.
In 2018, Seager was diagnosed with a right UCL surgery that required Tommy John surgery in May. Seager's absence prompted the Dodgers to trade five prospects and players for current Padres third baseman Manny Machado in mid-July. In his final season with the Dodgers, Seager sustained a right-hand fracture in mid-May that sidelined him for more than two months.
It is unfortunate to see a premature ending to the two-time World Series champion's season. But, Seager is expected to be healthy for Spring Training.
