The Los Angeles Dodgers traded former top prospect Diego Cartaya to the Minnesota Twins for minor league pitcher Jose Vasquez on Thursday morning. After designating Cartaya for assignment last week, the Dodgers secured a trade instead of risking him on waivers.

The Dodgers also recently traded Gavin Lux to the Cincinnati Reds, creating an opportunity to bring back fan favorite Kiké Hernandez. However, Hernandez is also being linked to the Philadelphia Phillies, who may target him to improve their struggling outfield defense.

Los Angeles sent Lux to the Cincinnati Reds and received 21-year-old center fielder Mike Sirota and a future draft pick in return. Lux, drafted by the Dodgers in 2016, spent five seasons with the team after being selected in the first round out of high school.

Teoscar Hernández expressed sadness in the deal.
