The Los Angeles Dodgers received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame more than 16 years ago, becoming the first sports franchise to be honored by the Hollywood Historic Trust and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

The Dodgers’ presence on the Walk of Fame is not just limited to the team itself, as legendary and longtime Dodgers play-by-play announcer Vin Scully was also awarded with his own star. Now another former member of the Dodgers’ organization is set to join him with Orel Hershiser announced as a member of the Hollywood Walk of Fame Class of 2025.

Hershiser joins a group of 36 new members, including Bill Nye, Green Day and Jane Fonda.

"The Walk of Fame has made history again! As Chairman of the Walk of Fame Selection Committee, I am thrilled to announce the distinguished honorees who will grace the iconic Walk of Fame in the Class of 2025,” chairman of the Hollywood Walk of Fame selection committee Peter Roth said.

“Each honoree truly embodies the essence of excellence in their respective fields. The committee and I cannot wait to see our honorees becoming part of this world-famous walkway!"

Hershiser pitched for the Dodgers for parts of 13 seasons and has since made the seamless transition into the broadcast booth as a color commentator and analyst for SportsNet LA.

He began his broadcasting career calling games for the Little League World Series with ABC and ESPN in 2000–2001 and has been a part of SportsNet LA since 2014.

Hershiser is joined by former soccer star David Beckham as the only two honorees in the Sports Entertainment category.

There has been no date scheduled for Hershiser’s star ceremony as of right now. Recipients have two years to schedule star ceremonies before they expire and upcoming star ceremonies are usually announced ten days prior to dedication on the official Hollywood Walk of Fame website.

Dodgers’ Walk Of Fame star 16th anniversary

The Dodgers received their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on June 20, 2008, and this year marked the 16th anniversary of the dedication.

Then-Dodgers owner Frank McCourt and his wife and former team president Jamie McCourt were present at ceremony along with Vin Scully, Joe Torre, Tommy Lasorda, Jaime Jarrín and more members of the franchise. The team was cited as having a significant impact on the culture of Los Angeles.

The Walk of Fame is one of Los Angeles’ most well known attractions as a landmark which consists of over 2,500 five-pointed stars embedded in the sidewalks. The stars are placed along 15 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard and three blocks of Vine Street in Hollywood, California.
