Brusdar Graterol underwent right shoulder surgery on Thursday, with the procedure performed by Los Angeles Dodgers team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache.

He joins Shohei Ohtani as Dodgers players who have undergone shoulder surgery this offseason. Ohtani’s surgery was necessary due to a subluxation of his left shoulder that included a labrum tear.

Graterol revealed news of his surgery through a post on X, formerly Twitter. Graterol mentioned dealing with plenty of frustration and pain throughout the 2024 season, but did not share details of the shoulder operation.

The Dodgers later announced the procedure was to repair the labrum in Graterol’s right shoulder.

Graterol’s season was delayed because of right shoulder inflammation that limited him to just one Cactus League appearance. He believed the injury stemmed from experiencing some left hip trouble.

The Dodgers placed Graterol on the injured list when setting their Opening Day roster for the Seoul Series and transferred him to the 60-day IL on April 2.

Prior to opening the season on the injured list, the Dodgers were hopeful to have Graterol available when they began the domestic portion of their 2024 schedule.

Not only was that not the case, but Graterol didn’t make his season debut until Aug. 6. That unfortunately brought about more injury woes as he faced just three batters before suffering a Grade 1 right hamstring strain.

There was initial concern Graterol suffered a season-ending hamstring tear, but an MRI confirmed a less severe injury and he returned one month later.

However, the 26-year-old ended up back on the injured list heading into the final weekend of the regular season because of more right shoulder trouble. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts declared him a ‘week-to-week situation’ and Graterol remained out until the World Series.

He pitched in three games against the New York Yankees, allowing one run, two hits and issuing four walks while collecting just one strikeout in 2.1 innings.

What Brusdar Graterol’s surgery means for Dodgers bullpen

The Dodgers are poised to begin next season without one of their high-leverage options available as Graterol is not expected to return until the second half.

Daniel Hudson retired after the World Series and Blake Treinen is currently a free agent.
