Dodgers Highlights: Gavin Stone's Complete Game Vs. White Sox; Shohei Ohtani & Freddie Freeman Swing Hot Bats
06/27/2024 08:25 AM
Gavin Stone pitched the first complete game of his young career and Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman again took care of run support for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they swept the Chicago White Sox behind a 4-0 win.
Ohtani hit a leadoff home run for the second consecutive night and set a new Dodgers record in the process as it marked his 10th game in a row at least one RBI. Ohtani entered the night tied with Bob Fisher (1913), Eddie Brown (1924), Augie Galan (1944), Roy Campanella (1955) and Matt Kemp (2011-2012) for the Dodgers record of nine games in a row with an RBI.
Ohtani is batting .444/.563/1.194 with eight home runs and 17 RBI during his 10-game RBI streak.
Teoscar Hernández’s sacrifice fly with the bases loaded extended the Dodgers’ lead in the third inning and Freeman added onto it with a two-run double.
There are hitters who are on a hot streak, and then there is Shohei Ohtani, who might be breaking heat records.

The Dodgers didn’t score after that point but that was not an issue for Stone. He allowed a leadoff double in the second inning but otherwise didn’t face much trouble as the White Sox mustered just five hits.
Stone’s efficiency allowed him to first reach 7.1 innings pitched for the longest start of his career. A short eighth inning also helped play a part in Dodgers manager Dave Roberts leaving Stone in to pursue the complete-game shutout.
There was action in the bullpen when Tommy Pham hit a one-out single in the ninth inning but Stone retired the next two batters faced. He was aided by Gavin Lux showing off impressive range to his right for the final out.
Dodgers history: Gavin Stone’s complete game
Stone gave the Dodgers their first complete-game shutout since Walker Buehler on April 25, 2022. He also became the first Dodgers rookie with a shutout since Hyun-Jin Ryu on May 28, 2013.
