Busy award week for the Dodgers manager
Dave Roberts finished a distant seventh in National League Manager of the Year voting this season, which is voted on by the Baseball Writers Association of America. But on Wednesday, the Dodgers manager was named the 2024 manager of the year by Baseball America.
Bill Plunkett wrote the accompanying story at Baseball America, which included this quote from Mookie Betts:
"To be honest, Dave is the real reason why we're here," Betts said after the Dodgers defeated the Yankees to win the World Series. "I know there's a lot of talk about Doc—(but) Doc is the best, man.
"Doc loves each and every person in here. Doc has confidence in each and every person in here. Doc never lost confidence in anybody in here. And no matter what we went through, he was always positive."
Wednesday was a big honor day for Roberts, who received the Good Character award in downtown LA from Greater Los Angeles Scouting.
In Dallas for the winter meetings on Monday, Roberts was a guest on MLB Network and shared this anecdote from the postseason: "Before Game 1 of the World Series, Kiké Hernández told me, 'After this series, you're going to the Hall of Fame.' That's something that just blew my mind."
