Sunday in the Dodgers minor leagues included a new rehab assignment, a rainout, a doubleheader, and a few standout performances by the Loons.

Player of the day

Alex Freeland just keeps hitting this season. He had three hits, including two doubles, and a walk on Sunday for High-A Great Lakes. The middle infielder stole a base, scored twice, and drove in a pair of runs.

Freeland, who has been alternating between shortstop and second base with Noah Miller, has seven extra-base hits in his last eight games. On the season, Freeland is hitting .346/.518/.593 with 27 walks against only 16 strikeouts in 23 games.

The Dodgers' third-round draft pick in 2022 this year leads the Midwest League in OPS (1.111), on-base percentage, slugging percentage, walks, and extra-base hits (14).

Triple-A Oklahoma City

Landon Knack struck out eight in his return to Triple-A, in Oklahoma City's win over the Salt Lake Bees (Angels). Knack, who was optioned by the Dodgers on Wednesday ahead of Walker Buehler's return, allowed one run in five innings for the win.

Kevin Padlo and Ryan Ward hit back-to-back solo home runs in the sixth inning, and each stole a base in the game. Ward also doubled in two runs in the first. Miguel Vargas walked twice and stole two bases.

Double-A Tulsa

The Drillers series finale against the Springfield Cardinals was rained out in Tulsa. The two teams will make up the game at some point when the Drillers head to Springfield for a six-game series from May 21-26. The exact date of the doubleheader is TBA.

High-A Great Lakes

Freeland paced the offense, and Jackson Ferris had his best start of the season in the Loons' win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Brewers). Ferris struck out six in his four innings, allowing two unearned runs. But more importantly, the left-hander walked none of his 17 batters faced to lower his walk rate to 13 percent.

Chris Campos piggybacked Ferris with three strikeouts in three innings, allowing one run.

Left fielder Chris Newell hit a solo home run for Great Lakes.

Low-A Rancho Cucamonga

The Quakes split a Sunday doubleheader with the Modesto Nuts (Mariners) to finish off the series. Kendall George walked four times and singled in the doubleheader, and stole a base in each game.

Jordan Thompson played shortstop in the first game and third base in the second game. He homered and stole a base in the latter. Jake Gelof played third in the first game and singled home a run, walked, and stole three bases.

Garrett McDaniels walked more (four) than he struck out (three) but also allowed only a single and no runs in four innings in his start.

Transactions

Triple-A: Right-hander Connor Brogdon started a rehab assignment with Oklahoma City, and pitched a perfect sixth inning with a groundout and two strikeouts on Sunday. Brogdon has been on the injured list since April 13 with plantar fasciitis in his right foot.

Low-A: Left-hander Robinson Ortiz joined the Quakes from Arizona, and the left-hander won the first game of Sunday's doubleheader with a scoreless inning of relief.
