The San Diego Padres postseason roster for their 2024 National League Division Series matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers features some changes from the Wild Card round amid an even split of 13 pitchers and 13 position players.

Martín Pérez was added to the Padres roster to provide them with a fourth starting pitcher in the wake of Joe Musgrove suffering a torn UCL in his right elbow that is going to require Tommy John surgery.

The 33-year-old has eight games of postseason experience, and since joining the Padres at the trade deadline, has posted a 3.46 ERA and 1.21 WHIP over 52 innings pitched.

The Padres swept the Atlanta Braves in the Wild Card Series, and for the NLDS round they opted to carry one more pitcher. Also added to the roster is Alek Jacob to supplement the bullpen with some length.

Jacob has played the role of a multi-inning reliever, going more than one frame out of the bullpen in five of his seven appearances this season. He owns a 2.45 ERA in 14.2 innings, striking out 19.

Overall, the Padres have four left-handed relief pitchers on their NLDS roster. That figures to prove notable in the Padres’ approach with Shohei Ohtani.

“We feel good about our plan, and the plan is just as good as the execution. I feel confident we’ll execute as well,” manager Mike Shildt said.

Dylan Cease is starting Game 1 for San Diego, with Yu Darvish facing his former team on Sunday. The Padres then are likely to start Michael King at home in Game 3.
