Game 4 of the World Series got off to a horrendous start. And no, we're not talking about Freddie Freeman's two-run homer in the top of the first inning.

Before the game even started, the Yankees invited Paul O'Neill to the mound to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Out of respect for his career, we're just going to say the five-time World Series champion is a bit rusty.

The first pitch from O'Neill sailed over the head of former Yankees pitcher A.J. Burnett. It was a tough scene for everyone at Yankee Stadium.

Instead of accepting defeat, O'Neill told Burnett to throw the ball back to him so he could get a second chance. Although his second attempt wasn't perfect, it was a huge improvement.

Yankees reporter Bryan Hoch shared a video of the first pitch from O'Neill

Fans of the Yankees couldn't help but laugh at this pregame disaster.

"Sums up this series pretty well," one fan joked.

"He'd fit right in on the 2024 Yankees," another fan said.

"This organization has even managed to embarrass themselves during pregame ceremonies," a third fan wrote.

On Monday night, the Yankees had Derek Jeter throw out the ceremonial first pitch.  While his attempt was respectable, the Bronx Bombers lost the game.

If the Yankees win Game 4, superstitious fans may want O'Neill back for a pivotal Game 5.

O'Neill may want to get some practice throws in next time he's asked to throw out the first pitch.
