World Champion Speed Skater Poses For The Cover Of Playboy

Usually, Dutch speed skater Joe Beune makes headlines for winning world championships. This week, however, she's got the sports world buzzing over her collaboration with Playboy magazine.
To the surprise of her fans, Beune was featured on the cover of the December issue of Playboy. Her cover photo was unveiled earlier this month. The official Instagram account for Playboy Netherlands shared a behind-the-scenes look at Beune's photo shoot along with this caption: "Finally we can tell everybody: we convinced world champion speed skating Joy Beune to pose nude for Playboy."
Beune, who captured a gold medal in the 5000m event at the World Championships, wasn't initially on board with posing for Playboy. She revealed that her boyfriend, Kjeld Nuis, gave her the push she needed. Before their chat, she questioned her physique.
"There were moments when I compared myself to other speed skaters. They are all super slim and have incredibly toned bodies," Beune said, via Daily Mail. "Then I thought, 'Maybe I'm too heavy. I need to be as light as possible, that's how I run the fastest.' But that's a load of nonsense. You have to eat well, you need that energy."
Though we're not even halfway through December, it sounds like Beune's photo shoot with Playboy is a huge hit. So far, she has only received positive remarks from her inner circle.
"That is very nice to hear," Beune said. "I would not have expected that so many copies would be sold. I expected a lot of criticism, but I only hear nice messages from everyone around me and that they think it's incredibly cool."

Beune is considered one of the biggest Dutch stars to pose for Playboy.
Judging by the reactions on social media, Beune will continue to receive compliments from her fans. We'd be surprised if that changes anytime soon.
Maybe this experience with Playboy will inspire Beune to consider other modeling gigs in the future. That is, of course, when she's not training to be a world-class skater.
