As the southeastern United States continues to be slammed by dangerous winter conditions, more and more sporting events - even ones indoors - are being postponed or outright canceled.

Unfortunately for college basketball fans, one of the events being delayed by the weather is the huge top-five SEC women's matchup between No. 5 LSU and No. 2 South Carolina.

According to ESPN PR, "inclement winter weather" in Columbia, South Carolina has compelled the schools to move the game from Thursday to Friday. The game will be played at 5 p.m. ET and will air on ESPN.

"Programming Update: Due to inclement winter weather, Thursday's #NCAAWBB game between No. 5 @LSUwbkb & No. 2 @GamecockWBB will now be played Friday (5p ET, ESPN)," the outlet announced.

Columbia is not used to temperatures dropping as low as they're scheduled to between tonight and tomorrow. According to The Weather Channel, temperatures are expected to drop down to the high-teens - a near record-low for the central South Carolina city.

The change in date is creating some problems for fans that had set aside time on Thursday but not Friday to see the game. But that's to be expected with any big rescheduling.

The game itself will mark the third time this season that South Carolina have played against the No. 5 team in the country. They're 1-1 in those games, losing to UCLA on the road in November (their only loss thus far) and beating Texas at home 10 days ago.

LSU, on the other hand, have yet to taste defeat at the hands of any opponent this year. They're a flawless 20-0 but have only faced two teams that were ranked in the top 20 at the time of their meeting - and none in the top 15.

It will be a battle of the last two national champions with Dawn Staley's Gamecocks currently enjoying a multi-year winning streak against the Tigers that includes the postseason too.

Let's hope that Mother Nature doesn't continue to deprive us of a chance to see Staley and Kim Mulkey's teams give us one heck of a show.
