WNBA Star Sophie Cunningham Claims Cops 'Followed Her' To Practice

It's been an interesting week for Sophie Cunningham of the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury.
Cunningham wore a revealing dress to the Mercury's game against the New York Liberty on Monday, and the outfit sparked a mixed reaction from fans online.
Some fans criticized Cunningham and the Mercury for putting attention on her pre-game outfit when she failed to make a significant impact in the game, while others complimented her for her style.
On Friday, Cunningham appeared to run into another issue on her way to practice.
"Had a cop follow me all the way to practice and now stuck behind two fire trucks...1000% will be late for practice, great start Soph," she said on her Instagram story.
Cunningham is averaging 8 points per game this season, down from 11.3 per game in 2023 and 12.6 in 2022. Her role has changed this season with the addition of All-Star guard and Olympic gold medalist Kahleah Copper to the team.
Cunningham's minutes per game have taken a slight dip, but she's started in only 14 games compared to 51 out of a possible 59 in each of the last two campaigns.
The former Missouri standout is in her sixth WNBA season, all with Phoenix. She was a second-round pick in the 2019 draft after playing four seasons with the Tigers.
The Mercury are currently 16-16, and they hold the No. 6 spot in the WNBA standings. They've dropped their last two games, and the surging Indiana Fever are only a half game behind them in the standings.
The Fever, led by Rookie of the Year favorite Caitlin Clark, are 7-3 in their last 10 games and playing their best basketball of the season after the All-Star break.
We'll see what happens around the league as the push for the playoffs continues, and we'll find out what Cunningham can do to help the Mercury secure a spot in the postseason.
