WNBA Head Coach Tanisha Wright Fired After Losing In First Round Of Playoffs

Despite making the playoffs in back-to-back seasons, the Atlanta Dream have decided to make a change at head coach.
The Dream made the playoffs this season despite having an underwhelming 15-25 record. They were ultimately unable to make any noise in the postseason, dropping both of their games to the New York Liberty in the first round. It marked the second consecutive year that head coach Tanisha Wright failed to get out of the opening round of the playoffs.
Instead of giving Wright one last chance to turn things around, Atlanta officially pulled the plug on Wednesday.
Dan Padover, the executive vice president of the Dream, released a statement on the team's decision to part ways with Wright.
"Tanisha was an important contributor in our efforts to rebuild the Dream and we want to thank her for her hard work and dedication to the Dream over the last three seasons and wish her the best in the future," Padover said. "At this time we believe a change is needed to lead our players and organization to the next chapter in our efforts to be a top team in the WNBA."

Wright, a former WNBA player, had a 48-68 record in three seasons as the head coach of the Dream.
The Dream will search for a coach who can properly build a winning program around 2022 No. 1 pick Rhyne Howard.
As for Wright, it's possible she'll have to accept an assistant role elsewhere for the 2025 season.
Prior to joining the Dream in 2021, Wright was on the Las Vegas Aces' staff.
