The WNBA announced on Monday an official decision on a national transgender holiday.

The league, arguably the most progressive in all of sports, is choosing to celebrate the Transgender Day of Visibility on Monday, March 31. The WNBA announced that it will be celebrating the holiday every year.

The WNBA's official account on X, which has more than 900,000 followers, released an official statement on the decision on Monday afternoon.

"Today and every year on March 31, we observe Transgender Day of Visibility. We honor the strength, courage, and resilience of transgender people and the transgender community. We see you, we stand with you, and we will continue to support you. 🩵🩷," the league announced.

Fans, meanwhile, are weighing in.

"Folks getting upset about this tells us everything we need to know about them. They want basketball to be basketball but it has never been about just basketball. Even in the nba, players and coaches has always been open about their political views. Other sports too," one fan wrote.

"Appreciate the sentiment, but actions speak louder than tweets," one fan added.

"Thank you so much for standing up for trans people, especially because so many lost souls try to invoke "protecting women's sports" to demonize them," one fan added.

"Please consider modifying your comments against hate and not let the transphobia run rampant in it this year. Thanks!" one fan added.
