Times Square in New York City is the place to be on New Year's Eve. However, it's a bit of a madhouse since it's the top spot to watch the ball drop.

Earlier this week, NYPD commissioner Jessica Tisch said a meeting was held to go over their security plan. They wanted to make sure there weren't any threats since roughly a million people will be packed together. In a recent press conference, New York City Mayor Eric Adams encouraged people to visit Times Square.

"I'm really excited, as we have spent so much time and preparation to ensure that not only do we respond to any immediate threat, as we saw two years ago, but how do we continue to keep New Yorkers and visitors safe to enjoy the New Year," Adams said. "Every year, thousands of people across the globe come here to Times Square to celebrate and do something that I think is important, they spend a lot of money. And I'm going to encourage them to continue to do so."

Unfortunately for Mayor Adams, the latest video from Times Square probably won't help his case.

Around 7 p.m. ET this New Year's Eve, a video of Times Square's gates opening up surfaced on social media. People legitimately started sprinting like their lives depended on it.

"This is the saddest video of the year," a social media user commented after watching this video.

"I have a friend who lives in NYC. I asked him if he's ever been to Times Square for NYE…he said oh heck no," another person wrote.

"I'd rather put salt in my eye than be in that crowd for 1 minute," a third person tweeted.

Hopefully, those spending New Year's Eve in Times Square this evening have umbrellas with them because they're dealing with extremely wet conditions.

"Unfortunately, rain is expected to move into the New York City area around 7 p.m. and likely linger through midnight," FOX meteorologist Stephanie van Oppen said. "There is a chance of some very heavy rain between 10 and 11 p.m. that will be potentially disruptive for anyone outside trying to see the ball drop."

Coverage of the New Year's Eve festivities in Times Square will be held on ABC.
