Two Playoff Contenders Have Interest In Former Ravens Wide Receiver Diontae Johnson

On Friday night, the Baltimore Ravens released wide receiver Diontae Johnson. Although he can't be claimed off waivers until Monday afternoon, two suitors have already emerged.
Johnson was traded to the Ravens prior to this season's deadline. The hope was that he'd elevate their receiving corps just in time for the playoffs. Unfortunately for Baltimore, that plan immediately blew up. When Johnson was on the field, he was a non-factor. The biggest problem though was that he simply didn't want to play for John Harbaugh's team. On Dec. 1, he refused to enter the game against the Philadelphia Eagles for undisclosed reasons. He was then suspended by the team.
"At this time, I'm going to have to wait just to clarify it," Harbaugh told reporters. "There's some moving parts there that we're going to have to figure out and explore and just see where we're at. I know that's not the answer you want, but that's the best I can do in fairness to everybody right now."
Despite his terrible behavior, Johnson is expected to be claimed off waivers, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. The longtime insider then mentioned the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers as suitors for the veteran wideout.
"Former Ravens WR Diontae Johnson is likely to be claimed on waivers Monday, per sources. Potential landing spots include but are not limited to the Chargers and Chiefs - if Johnson even makes it that far on waivers," Schefter said.
The Ravens traded a 2025 fifth-round pick to the Carolina Panthers for Johnson and a sixth-rounder.
Johnson logged just 39 snaps in Baltimore, hauling in one pass for six yards. Suffice to say, the Ravens lost the trade.
With Johnson out of the picture, Rashod Bateman, Zay Flowers, Nelson Agholor and Tylan Wallace will lead the wide receiver room heading into the final three games of the 2024 season.
