The Mike Vrabel sweepstakes is quickly gaining traction this week.
Vrabel has started the job hunt after ending this stint as a Cleveland Browns consultant. The former Tennessee Titans head coach interviewed with the New York Jets last week.
The New England Patriots are also expected to pursue their former Pro Bowl linebacker after firing Jerod Mayo. NBC Sports Boston's Phil Perry wrote Monday that the Pats "will make a hard push" to land Vrabel, who reportedly prefers a reunion with his old team.
Those AFC East teams could receive competition from two NFC squads.
According to the Boston Herald's Doug Kyed, the Chicago Bears will interview Vrabel on Wednesday. Furthermore, NFL insider Albert Breer reported that the New Orleans Saints contacted Vrabel about arranging an interview for their head coaching job.
New Orleans started the season with two promising victories, but the organization fired Dennis Allen after seven straight losses. The Saints finished the season 5-12 behind interim coach Darren Rizzi.
The Saints have also requestedinterviews with Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver. Per Josina Anderson, they're scheduled to interview Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn on Friday.
Meanwhile, the Bears will seek a new coach to develop Caleb Williams after going 5-12 in the No. 1 pick's rookie season. They fired Matt Eberflus after six straight losses and lost four more before a Week 18 win over the Green Bay Packers.
The Bears have soughtpermission to interview Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken and Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy.
During a radio interview with ESPN Chicago's David Kaplan, Breer endorsed Vrabel as the "perfect fit."
"If I was the GM, that is who I would hire," Breer said. "He would change the face of that organization."
During his six seasons in Tennessee, Vrabel went 54-45 and made three playoff appearances. The Titans made the AFC Championship Game during the 2019 season behind a resurgent Ryan Tannehill, but Vrabel's coaching tenure ended with two straight losing campaigns.
Tennessee has the No. 1 pick in this year's draft after winning three games behind Brian Callahan. The organization fired general manager Ran Carthon on Tuesday.
