Tiger Woods Saddened By Death Of Longtime PGA Tour Reporter

PGA Tour writer Steve DiMeglio.died at age 63 after a long battle with cancer. 

On Wednesday afternoon, the PGA Tour confirmed DiMeglio's passing on social media. They posted a video of him greeting Tiger Woods at the Bahamas in early December.

"The PGA TOUR joins the golf world in mourning the loss of our friend, golf journalist Steve DiMeglio," the Tour wrote on social media. "A fixture at TOUR events for nearly two decades and beloved by players, he inspired us all with his unique perspective, humor and love of the game, even in the midst of his recent, arduous battle with cancer. In the words of our friend Steve, 'Onward.'"

Woods also mourned DiMeglio's death in a heartfelt tribute.

"Unfortunately the golf world lost part of our family today, beloved golf writer Steve DiMeglio," Woods wrote. "I was always very close to Steve and we texted and talked about how he needed to keep fighting to get better so we could see each other in the Bahamas last month. And we did. I am so grateful for that. This a very sad day for all of golf. We have truly lost a friend."

DiMeglio, a former baseball reporter, spent decades writing about golf for USA Today and Golfweek. Roxanna Scott, executive editor of USA Today Sports, recalled the touching moment between DiMeglio and Woods.

"He had a passion for golf that was reflected in his writing and all of the relationships he built through the years," Scott said, via Golfweek's Jason Lusk. "I loved seeing the video of Steve being greeted by Tiger in the Bahamas last month. I'm sure that meant a lot to Steve. We will all miss Steve's thoughtfulness, his updates on his sports bets, and his wonderful storytelling."

In 2022, DiMeglio was diagnosed with rectal cancer that spread to his liver. Open about his treatment on social media, he said he was admitted to the hospital with stomach pain two weeks ago.
