This Is The Best Rant On The State Of The College Football Playoff

There have been a lot of opinions about the first round of the College Football Playoff over the last several days.
College GameDay's Kirk Herbstreit felt Indiana didn't belong in the College Football Playoff even though it had the lowest margin of defeat during the first round.
Other media pundits have argued for Alabama or Ole Miss to be in the field even though both programs finished the regular season with three losses.
However, Josh Pate unleashed an epic rant on his show, vehemently disagreeing with Herbstreit and others about the first round of the CFP.
"The first round is full of a bunch of blowouts so it's an indication that the committee did a bad job. That's the difference in a selection committee and a production company," Pate said. "And I had to say this to a couple of my buddies yesterday because I really don't think they distinguish between the two. If I'm watching a Netflix special and I don't like that there are so many plot holes in this series, well I'm going to criticize because that is a production. It is made for entertainment purposes and that production company, that writing team, they screwed up. That's a very, very valid take to have."
"This is competitive sports. A selection committee is not writing the script for the playoff for you. The selection committee is given a list of criteria and based on that, they put the teams in that they feel are most deserving, and then they go play. In a game where we have vast disparity in styles of teams, quality of roster, we're scoring three's and seven's, the ball is shaped very funny, and these venues house 100K+ people, and when it's 25 degrees and they're screaming it's tough to play, you're going to have some blowouts. You absolutely are. That doesn't mean they got it wrong. It doesn't mean anything is wrong."

The CFP Committee can definitely make some changes to the 12-team playoff going forward but blowouts happened in the four-team playoff constantly before it was expanded to 12 teams.
Heck, blowouts happen in other playoffs for other sports all the time, including the NFL.
Some things could change about the 12-team playoff but one thing that should never change is always taking the best teams.
