Top 5 Coaches The Jets Should Hire (1:23)

Having already fired head coach Robert Saleh and in the midst of a three-game losing streak, it's reasonable to assume that the New York Jets' playoff hopes could be dead and buried before the NFL trade deadline on November 5. But a few teams seem to be interested in learning if the Jets are going to be willing to move one of their most crucial players on offense.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, "a select group" of NFL teams have checked in to see whether the Jets are interested in trading former Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson. Earlier this week the Jets finalized a trade for All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams, who is expected to make his debut for the team as early as tomorrow. However, Schefter reported that the Jets are not planning to trade Wilson regardless.

"After the New York Jets' acquisition of Davante Adams this week, a select group of NFL teams have inquired into whether the Jets would be willing to trade fellow star wide receiver Garrett Wilson, league sources told ESPN on Saturday," Schefter wrote.

"The Jets have heard from other teams but are not planning to trade Wilson, according to sources."

Jets fans have largely laughed off the idea of trading Wilson, who they see as a key part of their Super Bowl ambitions - not a trading piece in their neverending rebuild.

But there is a logic to Wilson being tradable.

Wilson went over 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first two NFL seasons with renown draft bust Zach Wilson as his main signal caller. On a team in dire need of a star wide receiver, he could be a megastar.

Assuming Aaron Rodgers retires or simply leaves the Jets after this season, the Jets are going to be rebuilding once again with a new head coach and a new starting quarterback. Trading Wilson could land them sufficient assets to get their ideal new starter for the new administration.

That said, it's not happening. Adams is almost a certainty to leave the Jets after this season, so Wilson will be the No. 1 receiver for the Jets in 2025. And the Jets certainly aren't going to trade Wilson before the trade deadline so long as they believe they have a chance at making the playoffs.
