There was a crazy finish to the Peach Bowl on Wednesday.
Texas looked to be in command of the game against Arizona State with a 17-3 lead before having a 24-8 lead in the fourth quarter but Arizona State mounted a crazy comeback and almost won in overtime.
The Longhorns were down to their final play in overtime and on 4th & 13, quarterback Quinn Ewers found wide receiver Matthew Golden in the endzone for the tying touchdown. They then scored right away in the second overtime before stopping the Sun Devils when it was their turn to possess the ball.
The win sent the Longhorns to the CFP semifinals where they await the winner of the Rose Bowl (Oregon Ducks-Ohio State Buckeyes).
After the win, Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian added a $250,000 bonus and has $900,000 in bonuses for this college football season to date.
A bonus like that is in his contract and if he can lead the Longhorns to a berth in the National Championship Game, he'll likely get an even bigger bonus. The same can also be said for if he leads the Longhorns to a national title.
Sarkisian has done a great job with the Longhorns over the last two years. The start of his tenure was a bit shaky in 2021 when he was in his first season, finishing with only five wins but since then, he has won 33 games and has the Longhorns two wins away from a title.
He has won 25 games over the last two years and has built a national contender.
The Longhorns will have the next nine days off before playing in the Cotton Bowl against either the Ducks or the Buckeyes.
You can watch the rest of the Rose Bowl on ESPN. Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit are on the call for it.
