Steelers GM Admits He's Surprised By Team's Quarterback Situation

The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback room looks vastly different right now than it did just a couple of weeks ago.

They've brought in Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, and Kyle Allen while getting rid of Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph, and Mitch Trubisky. Their entire quarterback room from last season has been gutted.

It's something that Steelers general manager Omar Khan didn't expect heading into next season.

"If you would have told me a month ago in Indy that we'd be here and Russell Wilson and Justin Fields would be our quarterbacks, I'd say, I'd be a little bit surprised," Khan said, (first transcribed by ProFootballTalk).

The Steelers were able to sign Wilson when free agency got underway, which led to Pickett asking for a trade. Once that was accommodated, the team shifted gears to trading for Fields.

Fields will start the offseason as Wilson's backup but that could change during the season if the latter struggles.

Khan is hoping that these moves bring the Steelers closer to winning a Super Bowl. They haven't won one since 2009 and haven't even won a playoff game since 2016.

They're trying to end both streaks once the 2024 season gets going in September.
