Gymnast Simone Biles kicked off 2025 with a major honor.
Biles was named Sports Illustrated's 2024 Sportsperson of the Year, an honor she accepted at the Sportsperson of the Year Awards in Las Vegas one week ago. In her return to the Olympic stage three years after her struggles with mental health and "the twisties" in Tokyo, Biles won four medals, including three golds, for the United States in Paris last summer. She helped the Americans win the team gold medal and won the individual all-around for the second time in her illustrious career.
On Tuesday, Biles' close friend and former teammate Aly Raisman honored her with an Instagram post commemorating her recent accomplishment.
"Congratulations to the goat @simonebiles for being @sportsillustrated 2024 sportsperson of the year. You deserve it 💕 in awe of your accomplishments on & off the floor. In your corner always. So cool to be able to see your journey up close ✨," Raisman captioned the post.
Biles also shared photos from the "night to remember" on her own IG page Sunday.
The 27-year-old gymnastics legend sparkled in a shiny sheer dress at the event, earning a slew of compliments.
"You look stunning!" one person wrote.
"Such an honor to have met you and do your makeup! You are such a beauty inside and out! ✨" said makeup artist Sheba Snow.
"Love this ❤️," a third person said.
"Gorgeous dresses! Incredible women," someone else wrote.
Now that she's conquered the Olympics again, Biles has to decide if she wants to try and qualify for Los Angeles in 2028. Right now, she doesn't sound like she's leaning toward competing.
"Life and death," Biles told SI when asked what would have to be on the line for her to return. "Because I've accomplished so much, there's almost nothing left to do, rather than to just be snobby and to try again and for what? I'm at a point in my career where I'm humble enough to know when to be done.
"If you go back, you'll be greedy. Those are the consequences. But that's also your decision to decide. What sacrifices would be made if I go back now? When you're younger, it's like, prom, college. Now it's like, starting a family, being away from my husband. What's really worth it?"
If Biles does call it a career, she's already the most accomplished gymnast in American history.
