Los Angeles Dodgers slugger Shohei Ohtani is a threat to homer every time he steps to the plate, meaning fans in the outfield have to be on high alert when he's at-bat.

Unfortunately for one young fan at Dodger Stadium Tuesday night, the adults nearby failed him even though they were all paying attention when Ohtani launched his 27th home run of the season in the seventh inning of the Dodgers' 6-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

As you can see in the video below, the poor boy was drilled in the head by the ball when none of the grownups could get their hands on it as it landed in the outfield seats.

Hopefully the kid was alright. That had to hurt.

Unfortunately for fans, Ohtani has decided to not participate in this year's Home Run Derby at All-Star festivities in Arlington, Texas later this month.

The Japanese superstar has appeared in the event only once, back in 2021 at Coors Field.

"I'm in the middle of my rehab progression, so it's not going to look like I'll be participating," Ohtani told reporters Tuesday night.

Even though he's skipping the Derby, Ohtani still puts on a show daily with his offensive exploits. For the year, he's slashing .320/.402/.646 with 27 home runs and 64 RBI.

The Dodgers beat Arizona 6-5 on Tuesday on a Teoscar Hernandez walk-off single to move to 53-33 on the season.
