Sherrone Moore can celebrate the biggest recruiting win of his early head coaching tenure Thursday night.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood flipped his commitment from LSU to Michigan. The local prospect from Belleville, Michigan, confirmed the news by posting a highlight video on Instagram captioned "Hometown. Hero."
Moore will welcome the nation's No. 1 prospect to Ann Arbor next year. The head coach rejoiced after the news broke.
"YES SIR! #GoBlue," Moore wrote on X. "The Best players in Michigan go to Michigan! #ProcessoverPrize25."
Early in his senior year, Underwood set Michigan high school records for passing and total touchdowns. He threw for 44 touchdowns as the Michigan Player of the Year as a junior.
Belleville High School made a notable hiring before getting eliminated from the MHSAA playoffs. Connor Stalions, the ex-Michigan staffer who resigned amid the program's sign-stealing scandal, joined Belleville's staff earlier this month.
The 247Sports composite rankings give Underwood a near-perfect prospect rating at .9999. Andrew Ivins called the 6-foot-3 passer a "potential franchise signal caller with the ideal blend of size, arm talent and athletics."
Underwood committed to LSU on Jan. 6 and visited Baton Rouge on Nov. 8. However, he'll leave Brian Kelly's program to play for the Wolverines.
After winning the national title during an undefeated season behind Jim Harbaugh, Michigan has gone 5-5 in Moore's first season as head coach. The team lost several key players from last year's championship squad, including star quarterback J.J. McCarthy.
Moore now has a future replacement to help steer the program back to lofty heights.
Underwood's announcement comes on the same day the nation's No. 6 quarterback recruit, Julian Lewis, flipped his commitment from USC to Colorado. Five-star prospect Husan Longstreet is instead going to the Trojans.
