The SEC announced on Monday the punishment for LSU's football program, after fans threw garbage onto the field during Saturday night's game against Alabama.

LSU fans threw garbage onto the field during Saturday night's 42-13 loss to Alabama at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. LSU was called for a 15-yard facemask penalty on Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe in the third quarter of Saturday night's loss. The facemask penalty negated a sack - and a third down stop - and gave Alabama a big first down. LSU's fan base was furious with the penalty on Sai'vion Jones, throwing objects onto the field.

This is the second notable time that something like this has happened this year. It happened back in October, during Georgia's win at Texas. Kirk Herbstreit is not happy about it.

"Why has that become a thing this year? Some idiots do this in Texas and now all of a sudden we see it popping up in college football. Enough's enough, clowns. What are you doing?"

On Monday, the SEC announced the punishment for LSU, for the behavior by its fan base.

LSU is being fined $250,000.

The SEC announced the fine on Monday evening. It's in line with the fine handed down to Texas earlier this year. The Longhorns were also fined $250,000 for fan behavior.

"It is unacceptable to have debris thrown on the field at any time," the league said previously.

Ole Miss was also fined by the SEC on Monday. Rebels fans rushed the field following the home win over then-No. 2 Georgia at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Ole Miss was hit with a $350,000 fine.

The fines likely won't stop fan bases from behaving like this, but at least the schools are having to write some big checks to pay for it.
