Wrigley Field, home to the Chicago Cubs, is scheduled to host a college football game on Saturday. Northwestern will be taking on Ohio State in a Big Ten matchup.

On Wednesday, Northwestern announced what Wrigley Field will look like for Saturday's game. It's a cool setup, to be sure. But is it completely safe for players? The "friendly confines" look pretty confined. The two end zones don't seem to have much space in between the white lines and the walls.

"Stage is Set at The Friendly Confines," Northwestern announced.

Wrigley Field is ready, but is it safe?

Northwestern/X

There seems to be plenty of room on the sidelines, at least for 75 percent of the field, but that is not a lot of space by the end zones, especially the one in the outfield.

Northwestern is playing two games at Wrigley Field this year - Saturday against Ohio State and on Saturday, Nov. 30 against Illinois.

College football fans are pointing out some of the flaws in the field, though.

"Jeremiah Smith about to catch a fade TD and end up in the Club Box behind Home Plate," one fan wrote.

"This is awful and looks like a complete hazard for players," one fan added.

"So Dumb," one fan added.

Some fans are still excited, though. And it is certainly a pretty cool setting for a game.

"Pretty cool, imo," one fan wrote.

"Let's Ride!!" one fan added.

"This is gonna be sweet," one fan added.

This is far from the first time that a college football game is being played at a baseball park. And it's not the first time that one is being played at Wrigley Field, either. Back in 2010, the Big Ten announced some special rules for games being played at Wrigley Field:

  • All offensive plays would be run in one direction, toward the western end zone
  • Every time the ball changes possession, the teams would be turned around so the offense would be facing the third base dugout, avoiding the outfield wall

"The health and safety of our student-athletes is of the utmost importance," former Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany said in a statement.

We'll have to see if things are the same during Saturday afternoon's game at Wrigley Field.

Kickoff between Ohio State and Northwestern is scheduled for noon E.T.

The Week 12 college football game will air on BTN.
