Russell Wilson Has One Preference For 2025 NFL Team

While there's plenty of drama surrounding Aaron Rodgers this offseason, he's not the only veteran quarterback on the open market. Russell Wilson is still a free agent as of this weekend.
Wilson started 11 games for the Pittsburgh Steelers this past season, completing 63.7 percent of his passes for 2,482 yards with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions. The team went 6-5 with him as its starter.
Even though Wilson showed signs of his Pro Bowl form in Pittsburgh, it sounds like he's not the team's top option in free agency. That would be Rodgers, who actually had a meeting with the Steelers on Friday that reportedly lasted for six hours.
"Nothing shocks me, but I would be very surprised if Russell Wilson, under any circumstances, is back in Pittsburgh," NFL Network's Tom Pelissero said on Friday.
So, where will Wilson end up? According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the New York Giants might be in play for him.
The Giants signed Jameis Winston to a two-year, $8 million contract on Friday night. However, that won't stop the front office from pursuing Wilson.
"Still in the mix with the Giants. He has looked at the Giants as a viable option for a while now. Despite that Winston signing, my sense is the Giants have looked at signing two free agent quarterbacks and then they can still draft one [as well]," Fowler said. "They're starting from scratch for their quarterback room."
The Giants aren't the only team on Wilson's radar. Fowler said the Cleveland Browns still have interest in signing the veteran quarterback.
It's unclear when Wilson will sign a contract for the 2025 season. Perhaps he'll wait for Rodgers to make his move and then re-evaluate his options.
