The sports world lost an icon early on Thursday, as legendary baseball announcer Bob Uecker died at the age of 90.

Uecker spent several seasons in the major leagues as a catcher and won a World Series title with the St. Louis Cardinals, but he is best known as the voice of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Uecker called Brewers games for over 50 seasons, starting his tenure on the radio in Milwaukee back in 1971. He also worked nationally, covering playoff and World Series games for multiple television networks.

Other fans know Uecker from his role as Harry Doyle, the announcer for the Cleveland team in the "Major League" films.

Fans are reacting to the news of Uecker's death after a distinguished career in broadcasting and film.

"Bob was the soundtrack to my summers for over 40 years. I could not have enjoyed or admired any person more than Bob. He was a national treasure, and I'm so lucky to have been alive during his lifetime," one fan said.

"Fell to my knees in Menards. This one really tearin me up man. The goat. Pouring one out for him," another fan said.

"A legend was lost and baseball won't the be same. He will be missed by many, RIP Bob and thanks for the wonderful memories," said one fan.

"A true character of the game. This world needs more characters. We need more Bob Ueckers. RIP Legend," another fan added.

"This is a day all Brewers fans never wanted to see. Ueck was an icon here in Wisconsin and nationally. As a kid I always bragged about how I shared a birthday with Ueck. Baseball will never be the same without him," said another fan.

"Nothing but class. It was honor to listen to you for my entire life. You are Milwaukee and we thank you," one fan said.

"Can't even put into words how much this guy has meant to me. I'll always hear his voice when I watch baseball. RIP Bob," another fan added.

Uecker was the voice of baseball for generations of Milwaukee fans, and those fans became attached to his signature style and catchphrases over the years. The baseball world is mourning after losing one of the greatest announcers of all time.

Rest in peace to Bob Uecker, and we send condolences to his fans, family and loved ones during this difficult time.
