Report: 'Leading Candidate' Has Emerged For Ex-Giants Quarterback Daniel Jones

Last week, the New York Giants released former first-round pick Daniel Jones. He officially cleared waivers this week, making him an unrestricted free agent.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Jones wants to sign with a contender. The former No. 6 pick has been linked to the Baltimore Ravens and Minnesota Vikings. Heck, the Detroit Lions were even mentioned as a potential landing spot for him. Although a decision hasn't been made yet, it sounds like the Duke product is getting close to choosing his next home.
According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, a "leading choice" has emerged for Jones.
Anderson didn't reveal which team is in the lead for Jones, albeit she mentioned the Las Vegas Raiders as a potential player in the sweepstakes.
"A high-ranking league official told me they have the impression QB Daniel Jones has zeroed on a 'leading' choice," Anderson said. "While another high-ranking league source told me their understanding is Jones 'is telling teams tomorrow.' Separately, I've heard that the Raiders also are interested following the injury to Gardner Minshew."
Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell was asked about potentially signing Jones. He tried to avoid saying anything controversial, but he did rave about the veteran quarterback.
"I'm not going to really get into that today, but I will say tons of respect for Daniel Jones as a player and a person," O'Connell said. "Got to know him through the draft process years ago. I'm sure now that he's a free agent and there's probably a ton of league-wide interest in him, Daniel is going to make the decision that is best for him and his career moving forward, and I'm sure he's working through that process right now."
Jones finished his Giants career with 14,582 career passing yards, 70 touchdowns and 47 interceptions.
Perhaps we'll see Jones play a role on a contending team later this season. That would be the worst-case scenario for the Giants in what has already been a miserable campaign for them.
