Report: Blockbuster Saints Trade Talk Is 'Warming Up' Tuesday
Yesterday at 10:50 AM
We're only five hours away from the NFL trade deadline, with more movement expected in the final stretch.
Over the weekend, it was reported that teams were sniffing around the New Orleans Saints about the availability of four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore. Those rumors surfaced even before New Orleans lost on Sunday to the Carolina Panthers. The seventh-straight loss for the Saints dropped them to 2-7 on the season and ultimately cost head coach Dennis Allen his job on Monday.
This morning, CBS Sports NFL insider Josina Anderson reported that trade conversations regarding Lattimore are "warming up."
"I'm told that trade talks for #Saints CB Marshon Lattimore are 'warming up' and that 'multiple people are involved,'" Anderson tweeted.
The No. 11 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Ohio State, Lattimore made four Pro Bowls in his first five seasons, including three in a row from 2019-21.
This season, Lattimore has appeared in seven games, missing two with a hamstring issue, including Sunday's loss at Carolina. The 28-year-old cover man has 30 total tackles and a pair of pass breakups.
On Monday night, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Kansas City Chiefs were one of the teams keeping an eye on Lattimore's status.
"[The Chiefs] are monitoring the developments in New Orleans," Schefter said prior to Monday Night Football. They have checked in on Marshon Lattimore, and that would be a player I think the Chiefs could be involved in tomorrow by the 4pm deadline. We'll see if the Chiefs can figure out a way to get something done with another trade."
The 2024 NFL trade deadline is 4 p.m. ET today. After multiple trades were made over the last few weeks, we've already seen several deals this morning.
The Dallas Cowboys acquired second-year wide receiver Jonathan Mingo from the Panthers, while the Detroit Lions added Cleveland Browns pass rusher Za'Darius Smith. There should be a continued flurry of activity over the next few hours as well.
We'll keep you posted on all the details.
