A prominent NASCAR driver's girlfriend has tragically died at 33 years old this weekend.

Jeffrey Earnhardt, the nephew of legendary NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr., lost his girlfriend to cancer.

Lizzy Musi, a drag racing star and the girlfriend of Dale Earnhardt's grandson, lost an 18-month battle with breast cancer. She was 33 years old.

Her dad, Pat, announced the tough news on Facebook.

"Surrounded by her Family, in the comfort of her own home, Lizzy was called to heaven at 11:25pm tonight," he said. "Thank you for all the prayers and support throughout her battle. At this time, the family would like to have time to process, grief [sic] and make arrangements in peace. We will give an update as soon as we have information to share."

Our thoughts are with her friends and family members during this difficult time.

Cancer is always extremely cruel, but it's even more gut wrenching when it takes the life of a young woman like Lizzy.

May she rest in peace.
