A pregnant U.S. teacher died in a horrible vacation accident over the holidays.

A six-month pregnant teacher from the United States was on vacation with her family in Greece. The woman, who is from Santa Barbara, California, died during a hike. She reportedly fell more than 100 feet while on the hike.

The woman, Clara Thomann, was 33 years old. She reportedly died on the Greek island of Crete, according to reports. The accident happened on Dec. 23, two days before Christmas.

She reportedly plunged 164 feet to her death, according to reports. She was working as a teacher at Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta.

Clara Thomann, 33, fell about 164 feet down a gorge on the Greek island of Crete on Dec. 23, according to a report by the Greek Reporter. After her partner summoned help, first responders rescued her from the gorge and rushed her to a nearby medical facility, then to Chania General Hospital.

She suffered multiple fractures to her skull and chest, and her unborn child died in the fall, according to the Greek Reporter and another local news service, Nea Kriti.

The teacher was reportedly pronounced dead on Dec. 29.

"The injuries Clara sustained are insurmountable and she was declared brain dead … we are all heartbroken," her family announced in a statement.

Her organs were reportedly donated at the hospital. She was staying at Chania General Hospital, according to reports. She had been traveling with Elliott Finn.

Dos Pueblos High School principal Bill Woodard is deeply saddened.

"There are no words to describe the sadness we are all feeling," he said. "Ms. Thomann was so kind and such a great teacher who loved her students and loved science. Our hearts break for her family and for all of us who are feeling this loss."
