It's been a heartbreaking week for late-night show Conan O'Brien. In just the past few days, he has lost two loved ones.
On Monday, it was reported that Conan's father, Dr. Thomas O'Brien, passed away. It was reported by PEOPLE that his health was "failing." Just two days later, the legendary comedian lost his mother, Ruth Reardon O'Brien. She died "peacefully" at the age of 92.
From Ruth R. O'Brien's obituary:
Ruth was born and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts. She was a graduate of South High School, Worcester, MA (1949), Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, NY (1953), and Yale Law School, New Haven, CT (1956). She was only one of four women in her law school class and was elected vice president of the student government.
Ruth was a law clerk to The Honorable Raymond Wilkins, Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court (1956-57), and a real estate attorney at the law firm Ropes & Gray in Boston (1957-58 and 1971-96). In 1978, she became the second woman to be a partner at the firm. She was a resident of Brookline since 1963.
Conan's parents were married for 66 years and has six children together. He credited his father for introducing him to stand-up comedy. The former NBC late-night show host said, "He had a voracious appetite for ideas and people and the crazy variety and irony of life."
O'Brien has not yet released a statement on his mother's death. We can't imagine how difficult the past few days have been for him.
That being said, people around the country are rallying together to show their support for O'Brien.
"Sending prayers to him and the rest of his family," one person wrote.
"Im sorry for Conans loss but the way his parents pass is something that are told in fairytales," another person said. "They must have loved one another v deeply."
"Condolences to Conan, family and friends. May they RIP," a third person tweeted.
"Praying for him and his family," a social media user added.
Hopefully, O'Brien feels the support from his fans. It won't heal his wounds entirely, but at least it'll let him know that he's loved.
A funeral service for Conan's parents will be held next week in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
Our thoughts are with the O'Brien family.
