Pete Carroll Is Reportedly Being Floated For 'Interesting' NFL Job

Nothing has been reported yet, but Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll could return to the sidelines for the 2025 NFL season.
Carroll coached the Seahawks from 2010-2023, owning a 137-89-1 record during that stretch. During the 2013 season, he led Seattle to a Super Bowl victory over the Denver Broncos. After mutually agreeing to part ways with the franchise in January 2024, he opted to sit out this season. Instead, he accepted an advisor role.
It was reported earlier this week that Carroll is a candidate for the Las Vegas Raiders. The Athletic said he's the "top target" for their head coaching vacancy.
In the event Carroll doesn't land the Raiders job this offseason, he could potentially return to the NFC West in a lesser role.
According to Tim Kawakami of The San Francisco Standard, the 49ers have brought up the idea of hiring Carroll as their defensive coordinator.
"As the 49ers anxiously wait for the outcome of Saleh's interview with Jacksonville for the Jaguars' head-coaching vacancy, I've heard that Carroll's name has come up inside 49ers HQ as an interesting idea, at least," Kawakami wrote. "But the 49ers also have to wait out things with Carroll, who, according to The Athletic, could be the Raiders' No. 1 choice now that Ben Johnson has taken the Chicago Bears' job."
Carroll is best known for his stint with the Seahawks, but he has history with the 49ers. He was their defensive coordinator from 1995-1996. His success in the Bay Area led to him becoming the head coach of the New England Patriots.
For anyone worried about Carroll's age (73), he has already made it known that he remains in excellent shape.
"I'm physically in the best shape I've been in a long time," Carroll said. "I'm ready to be ready to do all the activities that I'm doing and feeling really good about it."
Would Carroll be willing to accept anything less than a head coaching job? We'll only get the answer to that question if the Raiders don't make him their new head coach.
