Playing in the AFC Championship Game has become an annual event for Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs are in the conference title matchup for the seventh straight year, and for the sixth time in that time frame, they are hosting the game. Kansas City will take on the Buffalo Bills later this evening at Arrowhead Stadium, the fourth time these teams have met in the playoffs the last five years.

This is business as usual for Mahomes, and he showed up for the game dressed as casually as one would expect for someone who has already won three Super Bowls.

Mahomes wore all-black (for the Bills' funeral?), including a hoodie and jacket and sunglasses. It was a very different look than say, what Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts wore to the stadium for today's NFC Championship Game.

Mahomes will be playing today's game with a heavy heart. His grandfather on his mother's side is currently under hospice care, with Mahomes' mother Randi asking for prayers

"My dad is in hospice & I'm lost for words," she wrote on social media.

With a win, the Chiefs would become the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowls to reach the big game on the third try. No team has ever won three consecutive Super Bowls.

Mahomes has also been dealing with discussions about how he is officiated, with many fans alleging that NFL refs give him special treatment.

"I don't feel that way,'' Mahomes said Wednesday. "At the end of the day, the referees are doing their best to call the game as fair and as proper as they possibly can. And all you can do is go out there and play the game that you love as hard as you can and live with the results. ... I think that's what we preach here in Kansas City.

"You get new referees every year, you get new circumstances, and you never can really tell because every play's different and that's what makes the NFL so special. I feel like I've just continued to play the game, and I just try to win, and whatever happens kind of happens.''

Kickoff between the Chiefs and Bills is set for 6:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
