Oregon lands Georgetown transfer after N'Faly Dante appeal denial

This was a big week for the Oregon Ducks as they awaited the NCAA’s ruling on whether or not starting center N’Faly Dante would be granted another year of college basketball eligibility. The NCAA upheld their initial decision and denied Dante an additional year of play. Oregon moved swiftly to replace Dante with the addition of former Georgetown big man Supreme Cook in the transfer portal as per Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.
Supreme Cook arrives at Oregon after entering the transfer portal with one year of college basketball eligibility remaining. He only played one season at Georgetown having begun his college basketball career at Fairfield in 2020. Cook played three years at Fairfield before transferring to Georgetown.
This past season, Cook appeared in 32 games, all starts, for the Hoyas at a little over 27 minutes per game. He averaged 10.5 points and 8.0 rebounds with splits of 57.5 percent shooting from the field and 57.1 percent shooting from the three-point line.
Replacing Dante will be no easy task, however. An ACL injury cut Dante’s early years at Oregon short, but this past season he had his best year while winning the Pac-12 Tournament Most Outstanding Player. He averaged 17.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.9 blocked shots.
Oregon adds several impact players in 2024 offseason
The Ducks may be losing N’Faly Dante, but head coach Dana Altman has a talented group of players set to arrive on campus for the 2024-25 season.
In addition to Supreme Cook, Oregon has three other players added to their roster from the transfer portal. The Ducks brought in former Villanova guard TJ Bamba, former Stanford forward Brandon Angel and former Toledo guard Ra’Heim Moss.
Bamba was an impact player at Villanova last season averaging 10.1 points. Angel had his best year of college basketball last year averaging 13.0 points and shooting 44.7 percent from three-point range. Moss was one of Toledo’s leading scorers last season at 15.5 points.
In addition to the transfers, Oregon will also have two incoming freshman. Jamari Phillips, a former Arizona commit and four star shooting guard, and Ibrahima Traore, a three-star center.
This past season, Oregon finished with an overall record of 24-14 and 12-8 in Pac-12 Conference play. The Ducks won the final Pac-12 Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament where they reached the round of 32 before falling to Creighton. With the dissolution of the Pac-12, Oregon will begin Big 10 Conference play for the 2024-25 season.
This will be Dana Altman’s 15th season at the helm for the Ducks. During that time he’s complied a record of 345-152. He’s led Oregon to eight NCAA Tournament appearances including one Final Four and one Elite Eight.
