Isaiah Thomas has lost another sister.
The former NBA star, best known for his time with the Boston Celtics, when he made back-to-back All-Star Games, lost his younger sister, Chyna Thomas, to a fatal car accident during the middle of the NBA Playoffs in 2017. Now, seven years later, Isaiah Thomas' older sister has tragically passed away.
Isaiah Thomas announced the devastating news on social media. The 35-year-old former NBA star, who last played in the league in 2024 with the Phoenix Suns, is mourning the loss.
The two-time NBA All-Star point guard posted a tribute to his older sister, LaQuisha Baldtrip.
"Ima miss you, big sis!!!" Thomas said on the post. "Damn, how you leave me too?"
"Two sisters gone!!!! This can't be real. I love and miss you, Queen."
It's unclear how his older sister died. His younger sister, Chyna Thomas, died in a single-car accident in Federal Way, Washington on April 15, 2017. Thomas was playing for the Celtics at the time and he would lead them to the Eastern Conference Finals, taking down the Bulls and the Wizards that April and May.
Thomas' Celtics teammates were impressed by his strength during that time.
"It says a lot about him," Avery Bradley said after Thomas played against the Bulls following his sister's death. "I know tonight he was playing for his sister. He was playing for his family. We appreciate that as teammates. He is just an amazing basketball player and a better person, so I'm happy with the way he played tonight, and we just need to continue to fight for him."
Brad Stevens, who was coaching the Celtics at the time, said: "He was incredible. He's an amazing, amazing player, amazing person, and days won't get easier for him. But he somehow plays like that."
Our thoughts are with Isaiah Thomas' friends and family members during this difficult time.
May his sister rest in peace.
