Ohio State Confirms Decision On Ryan Day For 2025 Season

As soon as Ohio State dropped this year's game against Michigan, fans in Columbus started putting together a list of potential replacements for Ryan Day. That's how bad they wanted him out of town.
Day, who started coaching the Buckeyes in 2019, has lost to the Wolverines four straight times. Despite having a loaded roster, Ohio State continues to get bullied in the trenches. So, will a coaching change be made once the College Football Playoff wraps up? As of now, it doesn't sound like it.
Ohio State athletic director Ross Bjork was asked about Day's future while on 97.1 The Fan. He made it very clear that he enjoys working alongside Day, who has a 66-10 record with the Buckeyes.
Bjork did acknowledge that Ohio State's ultimate goal every season is to win a national title. Obviously, he hasn't slammed the door shut on that possibility since his team is in the CFP.
"Coach Day is awesome," Bjork said, via On3. "He's great to work with. He totally gets it. He loves being a Buckeye, and so we're going to support him at the highest level throughout. But here's the thing too, and the reason why we needed to say something after that game is we're still breathing. They're still alive. The season's not over. The book is not closed, right? And so we've got to have confidence. I mean, Ohio State should be confident every single day. We're Ohio State. But we also have to make sure we stay to our values and we stick to what we believe in. And so to me, it's the process as much as it is about the end result."
If Day leads Ohio State on a run to the national championship game, maybe all will be forgiven. Anything less and fans will continue calling for his job.
Ohio State will face Tennessee in its first-round playoff game on Dec. 21. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET.
A win over Tennessee would land Ohio State a rematch with Oregon. Those programs squared off on Oct. 12 in one of the best games of the year. The Ducks won 32-31 at home.
