NWSL Boss Had Telling Reaction to Caitlin Clark's Ownership Move

Apart from being one of the top players in the WNBA today, Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark could be adding "NWSL team owner" to her list of titles soon. This is after news broke on Thursday that the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year has joined a group of investors that has made a bid to bring a National Women's Soccer League team to Cincinnati.
According to an ESPN report published on Thursday, FC Cincinnati of the MLS has teamed up with Clark in their attempt to win the bidding for an expansion team for the 2026 season -- an investment that could reportedly cost $100 million for the expansion fee alone.
NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman recently spoke to the press about this massive development involving one of the biggest names in women's sports today. The league boss had nothing but high praise for Clark.
"Her accomplishments and contributions to women's sports is incredible, historic," Bermain said on Friday, via The Equalizer. "It's changed the game for everyone, and she's amazing.
"Having her interest in the NWSL is an honor. We couldn't be more excited about her having shared her own personal story about having been a young soccer player and loving the game."
Berman then went on to imply that the league may have already started mapping out a plan on how Clark can help expand the reach of the league if and when Cincinnati's ownership bid is accepted.
"Her messaging around being a multi-sport athlete is so important for young kids who aspire to be just like her, and the future is bright for how we could potentially work with her or others who are influencers and interested in engaging and growing our league," Berman said.
It is important to note, however, that Clark's group does not have a clear path to winning the bid. While they are considered to be a strong contender, investors from Philadelphia, Denver and Cleveland have also placed bids and will be giving Cincinnati a run for its money.
However, the one thing Clark and Co. have going for them is the fact that the league commissioner herself has already expressed her excitement toward potentially working with the WNBA superstar in the future.
