Prior to the national championship game on Monday night, it became very apparent that Notre Dame offensive lineman Sam Pendleton wasn't pleased with his situation. That's why it didn't surprise anyone this week when he entered the transfer portal.

Pendleton started the first seven games of the season for Notre Dame at left guard before being benched for Billy Schrauth. When asked about falling down the depth chart, he sort of put the pressure on the coaching staff by telling reporters, "I can't really tell their reasoning; I didn't get a bunch of explanation." He also said he thought he was playing well prior to being demoted to second string.

"I played well," Pendleton said. "I was winning most of my games. There were a couple games that I didn't do as well."

Shortly after entering the transfer portal, Pendleton found himself a new home. It turns out he's taking his talents to the SEC.

Hayes Fawcett of On3 reported that Pendleton is heading to Tennessee. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

Tennessee fans should be amped up about this addition. During the early stages of the 2024 season, Notre Dame offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock raved about Pendleton's toughness.

"The type of toughness and lead by example, physicality, kind of that aura that you want surrounding your offensive line, I think [Pendleton] embodies that very well," Denbrock said. "And [he] kind of helps bring that to the other guys on the line, if you will, along with those other two guys that are out playing on the inside."

Perhaps a change of scenery is exactly what Pendleton needs to reach his full potential.

Pendleton isn't the only notable player leaving Notre Dame this offseason. Wide receivers Jayden Thomas and Deion Colzie have also hit the transfer portal.
