The 16 Most Painful College Football Teams To Be A Fan Of (3:34)

The Alabama Crimson Tide will be back on the field on Saturday, just one week after their shocking loss to Vanderbilt.

Alabama lost to Vanderbilt for the first time in nearly 40 years last week, giving the Commodores one of their biggest victories in program history.

Alabama dropped from No. 1 to No. 7, but one loss won't end their season. They'll look to bounce back against South Carolina in another SEC matchup, this time from home at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa.

After last week's loss and the resulting conversations around the team, former head coach Nick Saban offered some words of advice on ESPN's College GameDay.

"My message would be this: you're gonna suffer through one of two things your life: the pain of discipline, or the pain of disappointment if you don't have discipline," Saban said.

"I think with a little more of that in preparation and how they go about it -- they've got good players, and I think they've got good coaches, and I think they'll bounce back and this could be a great lesson for them."

Given Alabama's other results this season, it's hard to argue against the former coach's point.

They've been able to take own two top teams in Clemson and Georgia this season, and they have two potential candidates for the Heisman in quarterback Jalen Milroe and wide receiver Ryan Williams.

Saturday's game against South Carolina can almost be considered the calm before the storm for Alabama, who will face three consecutive ranked opponents in the coming weeks.

It starts next week, when they travel to Knoxville to take on No. 8 Tennessee. A matchup with No. 21 Missouri comes the following week, and Alabama will have to travel to Baton Rouge to face the No. 13 ranked LSU Tigers on November 9.

It's often said that the SEC is the best conference in college football, and Vanderbilt's win over Alabama proved that point.

The Crimson Tide aren't in for any easy games over the rest of the season, and they'll look to find their form against South Carolina before they run the proverbial gauntlet of games this year.
