Nick Saban isn't exactly a fan of college football's new 12-team Playoff format.

Appearing on the "Pat McAfee Show" Wednesday, the former Alabama coach gave his thoughts on the CFP bracket and some of its pitfalls.

"By giving the conference champions, when they're not the highest-ranked teams, the bye... what it really affects is the path to the championship," Saban argued.

"And when you don't seed the teams based on the quality of the total season performance..." he continued. "The number one seed should have, technically, the easiest path to the championship and that doesn't really happen when you allow conference champions to get seeded in the top-four when they're not one of the top-four teams."

Saban's comments sparked quite a bit of discourse around the CFB world online.

"Champions shouldn't always be in the top four if they're not top teams," a user agreed.

"Love Coach Saban, but he's wrong about this one," another replied. "One of the reasons people gave for not having an expanded playoff for so long was that it takes away the importance of the regular season. Rewarding conference champions actually increases the importance. His take is #SECbias."

"Just make it a 16 team playoff," a fan said. "Problem solved."
