Everything About Brittany Mahomes' Soccer Career (1:18)

Just 10 days ago, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered an ankle injury against the Cleveland Browns. The team later announced that it was a high-ankle sprain.

When the injury first occurred, some NFL fans thought Mahomes would miss time, especially since the Chiefs had back-to-back short weeks on their schedule. Not only has he played through the injury, he has looked better than he has at any point this season. In Week 16, the two-time MVP had 260 passing yards, 33 rushing yards and two total touchdowns against the Houston Texans.

Although there's still plenty of football left between the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers this Wednesday, Mahomes has been outstanding, completing a pair of touchdown passes in the first quarter.

Instead of giving Mahomes credit for his exceptional start to this afternoon's game, NFL fans have called him out for "faking" his ankle injury.

"This Mahomes ankle injury is fake," one fan wrote on X. "Brady would never do that."

Another fan tweeted, "The Patrick Mahomes fake injury into the insane late season into the playoffs run is always inevitable."

"Mahomes breaking out the fake injury way earlier than usual," a third fan said.

In Mahomes' defense, he told reporters this week that his ankle was starting to feel better. He didn't do much on the practice field though since the Chiefs were on a short week.

"We haven't done a ton as far as getting out there on the practice field," Mahomes said. "We've done a walkthrough, actually two walkthroughs now, and I feel like I can move around and do what I need to do and now we'll get to get to a little bit faster-paced practice and see where I'm truly at. But I thought, all in all, I came out pretty well.

"Obviously, the body's going to be sore just with a short week and everything like that, but I think the ankle should be in a better place. We'll see in practice, but as far as how I felt after this game compared to the one before, I'm definitely in a lot better place."

If Mahomes leads the Chiefs to a victory this Christmas, he can take time off to rest his ankle. That's because a Week 17 victory would clinch the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
