Meet Troy Aikman's Girlfriend (1:08)

Troy Aikman is one of the most iconic players in the history of the Dallas Cowboys' organization. As the triggerman of the team's 90s dynasty, Aikman helped guide Dallas to three Super Bowls on his way to six Pro Bowl appearances and bust in Canton.

Now he's one of the NFL's best broadcasters, not only because of his analysis, but because he's never afraid to take his former team to task when he feels they're not going in the right direction.

That was the case on Monday night when Aikman slammed the franchise for its handling of the Mike McCarthy situation and fan's really appreciated his comments.

"I thought Mike McCarthy would be the head coach, so this is a bit of a surprise for me today that he's not going to be," Aikman told Scott Van Pelt. "It suggests that there's not a real plan."

"As far as a coveted job, I don't know that that's accurate," the Hall of Famer continued. "I do think the Cowboys are obviously a high-profile team. Whoever is head coach of that team is certainly going to draw a lot of attention. I think most football people that take over as a head coach, they want to do it on their terms. That's hard to do. If you take a Dan Campbell [from the Lions], for instance — is Dan Campbell Dan Campbell if he's with the Dallas Cowboys? It's hard to imagine that he is. It's hard to imagine that a lot of these coaches might be."

"I love the Dallas Cowboys. I played there for 12 years. I wish them well," Aikman concluded. "But to say that it's a coveted job, I'm not sure I necessarily would agree with that."

"Troy Aikman not mincing words on Jerry and the Cowboys job wooowwwww," a Dallas radio host said.

"Troy Aikman saying the Cowboys head coaching job isn't a coveted one is incredible to hear especially knowing the gravitas that Aikman still has; Aikman isn't pulling punches here," Kevin Gray Jr. replied.

"Troy Aikman's right," Grant Paulsen commented. "The Cowboys job is more high profile than it is good. A meddling owner who serves as GM is never ideal for an incoming HC."

"Troy Aikman absolutely DESTROYED Jerry Jones in an indirect way," a fan posted. "Holy [expletive]! Good on the legend and hall of famer!"

It's refreshing to see someone of Troy's stature hold the team accountable. Whether or not it actually changes anything is another question entirely.

There was a time when the Cowboys were the ultra-aggressors and it resulted in championships. Now we're going on three decades since the franchise made it past the divisional round.
