He entered the portal on Thursday with a do-not contact tag, meaning that he knew where he was transferring to from the moment he went into the portal.
He had been recruited by Rhule and the rest of the Nebraska coaching staff and it paid off when he committed to the Cornhuskers.
Nwaneri only played in four games this season so he could be redshirted and not have to burn a year of eligibility. He had two tackles and a sack in those four games.
Before originally committing to the Missouri Tigers, he was the top defensive lineman recruit in the country and the eighth-best overall recruit in the nation, per 247Sports composite rankings.
Rhule has been building some momentum with the Cornhuskers this year. They won five of their first six games to start the year before clinching a bowl game with a win over the Wisconsin Badgers on November 23.
They'll play the Boston College Eagles in the Pinstripe Bowl on December 28 with a chance to finish the season at 7-6.
Nwaneri is a big get for Rhule in the portal but he's not going to stop there. He's going to keep recruiting some of the top players in the portal since it's a quick way to get talent.
He's been a good recruiter since taking the job in 2023 and if the Cornhuskers keep improving, so will the recruiting. Good players want to play for good programs and Rhule's task is getting this program back to being good.
