With the 2024 presidential election looming, NASCAR star Bubba Wallace has been more quiet than in previous years.

Wallace played a key role in NASCAR banning confederate flags from tracks in 2020 near the end of Donald Trump's run as president. The latter went as far as to call a noose being found in Wallace's garage a "hoax."

Despite the hate from Trump, Wallace isn't leaning into politics this year.

"Investing my time into that seems like a waste of time," Wallace told Fox News in an interview this week "I was definitely more vocal then because our sport was in desperate need of change."

"My beliefs stand strong in just being good humans to other people is the best way to go about life. No matter what side you're on, no matter what color you are, at the end of the day we're in this world together and we have to make it work together. And I think I've said that from day one and that hasn't changed and nor will it change."

Some fans understand his desire to stay away from the political arena, while others think he was told to.

"Any time you announce your political beliefs you open the door for controversy no matter whose side you're on. Not sure why he's being singled out," a fan said.

"The real reason? It hurt his brand dramatically. A NASCAR team relies on sponsorship. Sponsors rely on the consumer base. NASCAR's primary consumer is Conservative. Trashing the Conservative candidate is bad for business for a NASCAR team," suggested another.

"Because he realized he was wrong," added a third.

The star driver admitted he doesn't want to be active on social media due to the negativity.

"Social media nowadays is just a way for people to hide behind a screen and voice their opinions on things they don't really know about," Wallace said. "...It's just too much negativity that it's going to take years and years and years to get rid of, and we don't have time for that. Now, with being a dad and trying to be the best that I can be here for my race team and my team here, that's where I'm investing my energy so that's all you can really ask for."

What do you think of his decision?
